Gerard Noel Noel (formerly Edwards) of Exton Park, bt, the son of Gerard Anne Edwards of Welham Grove, Essex and his wife Jane Noel the sister of the earl of Gainsborough, was born on 17 July 1759 at Tickencote, Rutland. In 1798 he took the name Noel by royal licence when he inherited the estates of his uncle, Henry Noel, Earl of Gainsborough. He was MP for Maidstone, 1784-1788 and for Rutland, 1788-1808 and 1814-1838; he was Sheriff of Rutland, 1812-1813. Noel married firstly Diana Middleton, the daughter and heir of Charles Middleton (later baron Barham), on 21 December 1780 and he succeeded to his father-in-law's baronetcy in 1813. Diana died on 12 April 1823 and Noel was re-married on 4 May 1823 to Harriet Gill, the daughter of the Rev Joseph Gill of Scraptoft, Lincolnshire; she died on 11 August 1826 and he was married for a third time on 11 August 1831 to Isabella Evans Raymond. Noel died at Exton Park on 25 February 1838 and his widow died at Morlaix, France on 9 June 1867

High Steward of Campden, Gloucs., 1798. High Sheriff of Rutland, 1812-13. Succeeded to his father-in-law's (Baron Barham) baronetcy under special remainder, June 17, 1813. Inherited the estates of his uncle Henry, 6th Earl of Gainsborough, and assumed the surname of Noel instead of Edwards, by Royal Licence, May 8, 1798. Married (1) Dec. 21, 1780, Diana, dau. and heiress of Admiral Charles (Middleton), 1st Baron Barham, and had issue; (2) May 4, 1823, Harriet, dau. of the Rev. Joseph Gill, V. of Scraptoft, Leics.; (3) Aug. 11, 1831, Isabella Evans Raymond. Died Feb. 25, 1838, at Exton Park, Rutland. Father of Charles Noel (1801) (created Earl of Gainsborough 1841).
