Died unmarried Apr. 8, 1798. The Earldom became extinct and the estates passed to his nephew, Gerald Noel Edwards (1776), who assumed the surname and arms of Noel. (Burke, P. and B.; G.E.C.)

In Fielding (1910): MI 'In memory of the Honble and Reverend Francis James Noel. Rector of Teston and Nettlestead, and Rural Dean. In childhood, youth and manhood he walked with God; for 34 years within these sacred walls he preached Christ Jesus and Him crucified; the self-renunciation at the foot of the cross he preached without ceasing, to all committed to his charge; his children rise up and call him blessed; he died July 30th 1854 aged 60, and was interred in this vault (Teston, 9/8/1854).
