1901 census says he was of Swedish nationality, immigrated in 1894 (same year as mother).

In 1901 census, she is shown to have been born in Sweden, her 'racial or tribal origin' to be Finnish, her nationality Swedish, and to be Lutheran in religion. She moved to Winnipeg, and died at an early age (20).

     Spelled as Emelia Sofia in 1890 census of Sweden, which says she was born in "Fjellsjö". In Fodelsebok for Fjallsjo, she is listed as being born in Stensvattnet, and first among godparents are Johan Henrikkson Styf and his wife Ulrika, which makes it fairly certain that Sofia and Ulrika were sisters, both born in Mustasaari, Finland. Also mentioned as 'godparents' are: Olof Westerlund and wife from Bergsjo, arbetare Ossellin ( ?-unreadable} Frans from Finland; Johan Johanson and Pig. Lisa Mattson from Finland; another unreadable name-looks like Bonds. Mats. Bortlina Podumo Banks Enka (?); Sara Amanda Westerlund a Nisgard -there is a Sara Amanda Westerlund in the 1890 census at Hocksjo, Bodums moder, b. 1861, married to Johannes Lofstrom (b. 1891 at Glafva, Carlstads I). This couple had 3 children.
     Emigrated to Clanwilliam, Manitoba, Canada, in 1892 (with father) where she married Frank Albert Hillstrand.

     Shows as "Hillstrand" in 1901 census, though the rest of family is surnamed Hill. He immigrated to Canada in 1887, became naturalized in 1890.
Immigrated to Canada from Sweden in 1886 according to 1906 census of Canada.

On October 31, 1894, received a homestead grant for SE           7           13           16           W1
and on November 13, 1899 got a grant for NE           26           17           18           W1, both under the name of Frank Alfred Hillstrand.
