     -Brought to Passaford in 1892. Queen Annes School, Caversham. Spent much of life in India, interspersed with temporary positions in Devon with Church. Awarded Portuguese Cross of Dedication for her work with refugees.

1901 census: listed as schoolgirl, age 13; attending Queen Annes School, Caversham, Oxford.

A very charming account of the life of a chaplain's wife in India 1913-35. Mostly on military stations - Dacca, Howrah, Sabathu; chaplaincy at Lebong 1919; at Patna and Bankipore 1921; an account of a 'mutiny baby' from Murdapur; Kasauli.

1901 census: Thirteen years old, born in Cape Colony, South Africa, living in Oxfordshire (presumably at Caversham School in Reading).

From the Liquidation and Distribution account of Amabel Eedes (South African Archives) Violet received the sum of 237 pounds and two cents on Jan. 12, 1942 in Lisbon, Portugal. Her husband was one of the witnesses to the receipt.

VEALE, FS Westcott Neville (R51050) - British Empire Medal - No.5 (BR) Squadron - Award
effective 14 June 1945 as per Canada Gazette of that date and AFRO 1127/45 dated 6 July 1945.
Born 29 March 1908 in Capetown, South Africa. Educated at Landis, Saskatchewan. Mechanic
before the war. Enlisted in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, 20 October 1939. Award presented 22
November 1945. Governor General's Records (RG.7 Group 26, Volume 59, file 190-I dossier 7)
has citation.

        This non-commissioned officer has served with his squadron since November
        1939. While flying on operations for two and one-half years as a wireless
        engineer mechanic and wireless air gunner instructor, his skill and cheerfulness
        were most praiseworthy. In his present position as non-commissioned officer in
        charge of the wireless section of his squadron, he has continued to give loyal and
        efficient service. He has displayed splendid qualities of leadership and given
        unstintingly of his time to many activities of his squadron. The consistent
        devotion to duty shown by this non- commissioned officer for over five years has
        set a splendid example.
