      Captain, Royal Marine Light Infantry
        Had been injured seriously in the war in East Africa. Nellie nursed him, probably at Bighi Hospital in Malta, where they married. He died of his injuries shortly after. His father, also Charles Hall, was a Mathematics master at Clifton College, Gloucester (near Bristol). He co-authored a book of mathematics which was widely used as a textbook, Hall and Knight's Algebra. (Henry Sinclair Hall and Samuel Ratcliffe Knight) Westcott attended Clifton school, so there may have been some common ground there.
