      BA Exeter Coll. Oxon 1643. Instituted Rector of Iddesleigh Nov 16th 1643 by grant of Anthony Copplestone Esq. Married 1647 to Elizabeth Rouse daughter of Anthony Rouse Rector of Kilkhampton, Cornwall. Signed Declaration of Conformity 1662. Buried Iddesleigh.

    Quote from Walker, Sufferings of the Clergy -
        "Walter Veale had the living of Iddesleigh in Devon, by plunderings, quarterings, etc. he was sometimes obliged to fly and abscond to woods and furze brakes, but I do not learn he was ever solely dispossessed."

Tablet in the tower of St. James Church, Iddesleigh: Here lieth the Body of Walter Veale Rector of this Parish who dyed the X day of April 1689 Aet Suæ 71. and also the Body of Elizabeth his wife who dyed the 26 of June 1692, Aet suæ 65.

     Went to school in Torrington. LLB St. John's Coll. Cambs. Rector of Monkokehampton, Devon 1681, patr Hugh Stafford Esq. of Iddesleigh. Married Wilmot, daughter of Walter Paddon of Iddesleigh. Both Walter and Wilmot buried in north aisle of Iddesleigh church. There is a tablet showing a lady in a hooped dress with infant child by her. The inscription reads:-

        "Here lies the body of Wilmot wyfe of Walter Veale Rector of Monk Okehampton.
        Buried ye last day of August AD1681 and also of their daughter Hannah."
