Nov. 27, 1765, at Newark-upon-Trent, Notts. School, Easton, near Stamford. Matric. Michs. 1783. Adm. at Lincoln's Inn, Feb. 21, 1775. Travelled on the Continent with Robert Pedley (of St John's), an eccentric tutor. Succeeded to the Baronetcy on the death of his uncle, Sir Richard Heron (sometime Chief Secretary of Ireland), Jan. 18, 1805. Of Stubton Hall, Lincs. High Sheriff of Lincs., 1809-10. M.P. for Grimsby, 1812-18; a petition was presented against the validity of the election, but failed. M.P. for Peterborough in nine Parliaments, 1819-47. A constant speaker in the House. Built the tower and nave of Stubton Church. Married, Jan. 9, 1792, Amelia, 2nd dau. of Sir Horatio Mann, Bart., of Boughton-Malherbe, Kent. Author, Notes (Grantham, 1850), chiefly extracts from his diary: he maintained at Stubton Hall a menagerie of many uncommon animals and birds, and recorded particulars of their habits, breeding and rearing, as well as comments on public events at home and abroad, and pungent criticisms of contemporary politicians.
